Be honest with yourself: are you really putting as much effort into your appearance as you should? It’s easy to become complacent, especially if you’re not actively trying to impress people. If you’re already in a relationship and gainfully employed, is there any reason to go out of your way to look your best at all times? The answer is yes, there actually are benefits to looking your best even when you don’t think you need to. You’ll be perceived as more professional at work, and you’ll feel more confident when you know you look good. This confidence will be reflected in how others treat you. Here are four easy ways to instantly improve your appearance.
1. Get a Haircut
Snipping off those dead ends makes the entire length of your hair look better. It’ll look shinier from root to tip, even if you don’t do anything else to it. However, perhaps you should do something else to it. Try updating your cut to something more modern or experimenting with flattering highlights. There’s something exciting about changing up your hairstyle. It makes you feel like a whole new person. Maintain that feeling by vowing to get a trim at least three times a year.
2. Adopt a Skincare Routine
We’re not talking about a fully-fledged regimen of expensive products to treat every imaginable skin issue. It’s usually sufficient to find a gentle cleanser and a lightweight moisturizer. The key lies in committing to washing your face every morning and evening, even if you don’t think your skin is dirty. Removing any undetectable hints of dirt, grime, oil, and makeup every day makes a huge difference over time. Your skin tone will be more even, and your texture will be less pronounced. Moisturizing keeps the skin smooth and supple.
3. Touch up Your Brows
Both men and women look better when they pay a little bit of attention to their eyebrows. Women often refine the shape of their eyebrows by waxing or tweezing them. Men look no less masculine when they tweeze unibrows or trim long brow hairs. Your face will look more put-together, and other people probably won’t be able to figure out what you’re doing differently.
4. Start Flossing
Be honest: you probably don’t floss as often as you’re supposed to. Flossing isn’t just for the health of your teeth and gums. It reduces bad breath, and it keeps your gums healthy. When you don’t floss, your gums may become swollen, and to be frank, it doesn’t make you look clean or appealing. Flossing takes only a few minutes, faster than a commercial break. There’s no reason to avoid flossing. You may also want to take your oral health to the next level by committing to regular dental visits, straightening your teeth with traditional braces or Invisalign, and daily upkeep like brushing and mouthwash.
These four tips are just a starting point. As you start to see the benefits of paying attention to your appearance, you will experiment with other methods that are specific to your hair type and facial features. Focus on how you feel, and that will translate into how you look.
