Driving a car becomes an automatic activity to most people after a while and that’s when it becomes really dangerous. Mistakes are easy to happen and safety concerns fall through the cracks. And even though you might have not been in an accident before, it doesn’t mean that you won’t in the future, so make sure that you are aware of what you are doing and be careful. Here are some tips that can help you increase the safety of your car and prevent accidents.
Wear a Seat Belt
Many people forget to put on a seat belt or they wear it improperly because it’s bothering them. This is a huge mistake as seat belts can really save lives and help keep your car safe. It will keep you inside the car when an accident happens and it will keep you and all of the passengers at least a little bit safer in the car. You have to wear it properly. It should rest across your chest and shoulders and never across your neck. Don’t place it under your arm or behind your back. This makes it impossible for the seat belt to do its job. The lap belt should be snugly placed over the hips and extenders should be purchased for larger drivers and passengers to help you stay safe and still comfortable.
Check the Car Seats and Boosters
Kids and babies need even more protection than grownups in the car, especially so if a collision happens. Kids should be safely buckled in the car with a seat that’s appropriate for their age as well as their weight and height. They should remain in the rear-facing position until they are one year old and then later they should remain rear-facing until they reach a height or weight limit allowed by the car seat.
“Then after the age of three, they should be safely strapped into a car seat with a harness until they outgrow it and then they can move to a booster seat until they are old and big enough to safely sit on their own. They should not drive in the front until they are twelve. Always be careful to look at the car seat manufacturer’s instructions to install a car sear and have it properly installed,” explains Samantha Atkin, a health blogger at Big Assignments and Elite Assignment Help.
Don’t Multitask While Driving
Many drivers get comfortable enough with their driving skills that they start doing other things while driving. This can include many things, namely texting, talking on the phone, eating, putting on makeup and so on. “This is a really bad thing since you can’t possibly stay safe in the car and keep your passengers safe while doing other things. You need to remain focused on the driving while you drive and let go of all of the other distractions,” says Tom Hills, a lifestyle writer at AustralianReviewer and Paper Writing Service Reviews.
Even talking may be dangerous sometimes, but it’s usually not. Don’t work on the navigation system while driving either and use other visual distractions like selecting music and so on. Make sure that you do everything you need to do before you leave and then while driving, be focused. Pull over for any need you have.
Watch for Pedestrians and Other Traffic Participants
Roads are often not just a place for cars and other vehicles, but there are also many pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. You need to watch out for them too and be extra cautious when you see them on the road. This is for your protection and their safety at the same time. Make sure that you are always driving slow enough to be able to stop if something happens and keep a safe distance because you don’t want to harm anyone.
