What-You-Might-Not-Expect-When-Youre-Expecting

There’s a whole lot of information out there about what you should and shouldn’t be doing or what to expect throughout your pregnancy and even after birth, but there are always a few things that professionals neglect to convey. This could be for various reasons, the main one being to protect expecting mothers from unnecessary stress. Here are a few things you might not have expected about your childbirth experience.

Feeding Might Be Complicated

If you’re not planning on bottle-feeding with a good alternative like S-26 Alula Baby Formula, then you’re probably hoping to breastfeed successfully. Dreaming of that first moment where you can provide for your newborn is totally normal, and it can be a beautiful experience. However, don’t be alarmed or disappointed if things don’t go perfectly on the first try, since there are a few problems that could arise. Your baby might struggle to latch, at first and you might not be producing enough milk. Both of these are issues that can be handled by making an appointment with a lactation consultant who can help you and your baby work through them.

Also, keep in mind that breastfeeding can be painful! Your breasts may become swollen and hard, as well as your nipples becoming tender and sore. Make sure to speak to your healthcare providers about the best way to manage this for a more comfortable experience for you and your baby.

Labour Can Be Long (Or Really Short)

Every woman has a different labour experience. While some women spend only a few short hours in labour with a quick in-and-out ordeal in the hospital, others go through the motions for up to a few days. It’s important to try and avoid having any serious expectations when it comes to the period of your labour and rather try to go with the flow. If you’re having a long labour, you might start to feel a little anxious. It’s important to talk openly with your doctors about what’s going on, what you need, and what would be the best route going forward.

Your Painkillers Might Not Work

If you’re bargaining on an epidural to manage your pain, it is important to realize that there is a possibility that it doesn’t offer you the relief you’re expecting. There are various reasons as to why your epidural may not work, but you should be prepared to use more natural pain management techniques in case this does occur. Before giving birth, look into some helpful breathing techniques and comfortable positions that may assist with labour and birth pains.

A Lot of Bleeding is Normal

You’ll probably experience bleeding for a good few weeks after giving birth, and you shouldn’t be surprised or concerned by this. It’s a completely normal part of the childbirth process. Bleeding may be intermittent which means it could stop for a few days and then start again and could be more spotting than anything else at times. All of this is completely normal, so it’s a good idea to stock up on some postpartum pads.
