Fashion can sometimes seem to come naturally to people. They can intuit how accessories go together and the proper way to expand their wardrobe. Developing a fashion sense is actually a process that takes time. It is also a lot of fun. You have the chance to express yourself in any way you want.
1. Stay on Top of Trends
You don’t necessarily have to read Vogue magazine’s famous September issue to get your fashion forecast. Pay attention to street style. What are people in your demographic wearing? More importantly, does it appeal to you? Maybe the shoes are a little too chunky or the jeans are whitewashed beyond what you’re comfortable with. Get an eye for these details to see how you can remix them to make your own unique style. The fashion world can obviously provide inspiration, but local styles and the fashion of your friends can be both easier to take on and more suited to your lifestyle.
2. Know Your Body Type
How do clothes generally tend to fit you? They may hang loosely for a drape effect or your outfits might be more “body conscious” or “bodycon” for short. This, too, is a matter of personal preference. Fluctuations in weight and tastes are also a contributing factor. Don’t be afraid to try different things and see what works for you. Finding your fashion sense requires you to be adventurous and experimental. You don’t have to wear it again or even wear it outside if you think it doesn’t work for you.
3. Develop Self-Confidence
You know what you look like when you stand in front of the mirror: amazing. Wear your clothes and don’t let them wear you. That’s the most attractive thing of all. If you need extra encouragement, try sticking Post-Its with positive quotes all around your closet. You should also notice what outfits you tend to gravitate towards. Keep wearing what is comfortable for you. Sometimes there are parts of ourselves that we would like to change and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Cosmetic procedures like Botox are very common.
4. Work with a Stylist
You might feel like you’ve done all you can to figure out your sense of style. If you are stuck then it could be time to call in a professional. There are many people who work as stylists full time. Their job is to give advice and maybe even some tailoring tips as well. Some of the big-name department stores offer these services for free. Be careful though. A good stylist will not try to force you into buying a particular item. Rather they will work with you to find a style that feels and looks great on you.
There is a reason for the term “fashion statement.” The clothes you wear tell everyone about who you are. Keep this in mind the next time you go shopping. Think about what you want to say about yourself and how you want to present yourself to others. While fashion statement might imply something you want to say others, it’s really all about what you want to say about yourself.
