Australia has a very friendly population of people who are proud to show off their country. The geography and climates are diverse, to say the least, so you are spoilt when you visit. It is a very beautiful place with much to see and do, so here are some things to consider if you visit the great southern land.

Visit Some Iconic Australian Landmarks

Australia is a vast island continent that has so much to show. The Northern Territory has Uluru and Sydney has the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, just to name a few. Because the country is so big and has so many landmarks and beautiful places, it is important to do your research and find out what you want to experience when you get there. Every place is unique and has its own history, even though the country (western-wise) is only about 240 years old. If you want to learn more about the indigenous culture, there are plenty of museums and places that can tell you about the long history of the Aboriginal people, who have been in Australia for over 60,000 years.

Go to a Festival

The number of festivals that take place in Australia is insurmountable. If you want to go to a wine festival, for example, then South Australia is where you want to be, although there are other wonderful wine festivals in places like rural Victoria and southern New South Wales. Music festivals are also prevalent around the country, but the biggest ones are in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane. It doesn’t matter what time of the year you visit Australia, there will always be some festival to attend if you are so inclined. The Melbourne Comedy Festival is a standout and is up there with Scotland’s Edinburgh Comedy Festival.

Attend a Horse Racing Event

For over 160 years, horse racing culminates popular in Australia with the prestigious Melbourne Cup, which is held on the first Tuesday of November at Flemington Racecourse. Every year people flock to watch the “race that stops the nation” at 3 pm. If you want to watch horse racing in Randwick Racecourse in Sydney then the Autumn or Spring Carnivals are the best times to be there with events such as The Everest being raced annually, which is the richest turf race in the world with the current total prize purse of $15,000,000AUD. The Golden Slipper Stakes is also a cherished event that is held at Rosehill Garden in Sydney in April so anyone interested in horse racing should investigate what races will occur when they are in Australia.

Go to the Beach

Everyone loves going to the beach and Australia is one of the best places in the world to go for such an experience. If you are in Sydney then Bondi Beach is the spot for you while St. Kilda Beach is an excellent place to go if you are in Melbourne. Brisbane boasts some of the best beaches in the world with millions of people visiting Surfers Paradise every year. No matter where you go in Australia you will be sure to find some outstanding beaches and be able to relax or take part in the many entertaining things available to do.

Australia features countless stunning natural landscapes and activities, so there will be more than enough to keep you entertained and amazed on your next visit.
