As the festive season approaches, many parents will be thinking about keeping their children happy. Ideally, every child will have a wonderful Christmas. However, this can be easier said than done, especially if you have more than one child. The good news is that this article contains a few tips that could help.

Start Your Preparations Now

One of the best things that you can do is to start your preparations now. Gather together a few toddler Christmas gift ideas. Think about what your little ones would love for Christmas. The sooner you start preparing for the festive season, the happier it’s likely to be.

Talk To Your Children About The Holidays

Talk to each of your children about the holidays and what they should expect.

Explain:

  • If family or friends will be visiting
  • When or if they should expect to see Santa
  • What you’ll all be doing on Christmas day
  • Why it’s a good time of the year
  • When they will be receiving gifts

When you sit down and talk to your children about the holidays they’re more likely to get excited.

Buying Presents

It would be good if everyone was able to buy their children the presents they wanted. However, this is not always possible. If you cannot give your child what they want for Christmas, consider an alternative. Ask them what they might like if Santa isn’t able to deliver their chosen gift. This won’t just ensure your child is happy, it’ll also help them to understand what is and isn’t possible. And I’m sure that they’ll be happy regardless.

Try To Remain Calm

If you’re excited about Christmas, your feelings may rub off on your children. This is perfectly normal. However, remaining calm is the way to go. This is because:

  • When you’re calm, your children are more likely to be calm as well
  • Your children are influenced by your behavior
  • While it’s OK to be excited, some children can get overly stimulated
  • Remaining calm can help everyone to regulate their feelings

You can show a little excitement from time to time. However, remaining calm can help a great deal.

Stick to Your Routines

Children tend to be happier when their day is predictable. Try to stick to routines even during the holidays. Bedtimes, as well as meal times, should be at or around the same if that’s possible. Routines and stability are very important for children.

Encourage Some Quiet Activities

If things begin to get a little overwhelming, give your children some quiet activities. Encourage reading, crafts, or sitting in a part of the house that isn’t noisy. Let your little ones immerse themselves in the quiet activities that they love. When you do, they’re less likely to be overwhelmed and more likely to have a good time.

Christmas can be a wonderful time of the year for everyone. However, it can also be hard to keep everyone happy all of the time. Use the above tips to help you to keep your children and yourself happy this Christmas.
