It’s no secret that parenting is hard work. Although looking after a newborn or toddler can be totally exhausting, every sleepless night is worth it to watch your little ones grow and develop. However, to be the best mom you can be, you need to allow yourself a bit of self-indulgence from time to time, even if only for a short while when your baby is sleeping. Here we have listed a few different ideas for you to give yourself a pick-me-up.

New Underwear

Retail therapy really can give you a temporary high. Plus, if you love the items when they arrive and can get plenty of use out of them, it’s a win-win. After having a baby it’s natural for you to have an adjustment period, getting used to how your body has changed over pregnancy and the months after. So, why not treat yourself to some new underwear? This can not only make you feel sexier, but if you find great quality pieces that fit perfectly, then you’ll love wearing them for the comfort factor. The last thing you want is ill-fitting underwear digging into you after a long day.

Time Out in Nature

There are so many benefits to getting out and about, and enjoying the great outdoors. Plus, this is something you can do with your little ones in tow. A little trip to the park, a walk to feed the ducks or a picnic in the garden. Although simple, getting some fresh air will allow you to clear your head and relax.

Endorphin Release

If you get the chance, try to fit in a bit of exercise where possible. Whilst it is difficult for you to get a strong, regular fitness regime on the go when you’re tired and busy, try to make the most of small windows of time. Baby napping? Try to squeeze some jumping jacks in. Is somebody else looking after your child? See if you can grab a jog around the block. Even short bursts of exercise can be excellent to give you a lease on life. Get the blood pumping, and release the endorphins.

Spa Day

The ultimate way to relax: go on a parent-baby spa day. With this, you won’t be worrying about your child, but you’ll still be able to get a bit of welcome relief. See what packages are available locally to you, and allow yourself a bit of luxury. You’ve earned it.

Stimulate Your Mind

Giving yourself a bit of brain stimulation might seem like the last of your priorities right now but it could well be just what you need, especially if it was something you loved pre-parenthood. Consider having a go at the following to get your brain ticking:

  • Reading
  • Board games
  • Trivia game shows
  • Journaling
  • Getting stuck into your hobbies again e.g. painting
  • Conversing with friends or family
  • Podcasts

Doing activities that stimulate your mind will make you feel saner when all of your thoughts have been revolving around motherhood! You’re doing great, just remember to practice a bit of self-love from time to time. You deserve it.
