Have you been feeling stuck in a rut and unsure of how to get out? It could be that your comfort zone has become far too comfortable. When you’re unwilling to challenge yourself, you can avoid fear, but you end up missing out on desirable emotions like excitement and joy. Fortunately, there are things you can do to rediscover your zest for life.

Here Are Four New Activities to Help You Branch Out:

1. Public Speaking

The more nervous public speaking makes you, the more important it is for you to face your fear. The best orators are ones who are able to engage crowds both big and small. You can do things to improve your public speaking like joining a local chapter of Toastmasters or doing readings at local coffeehouses. You might still feel nervous, but those feelings can diminish with practice. If you want to break out of your comfort zone, the first things to think about are what you fear most. Doing those things will give you the push you need.

2. Skydiving

Want to know what skydiving feels like? Then you have to go skydiving. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. While you’ll be understandably nervous at first, the fear disappears as it makes way for exhilaration as you feel the wind against your body and view the awesome sites below. When you learn to skydive, you surrender yourself to gravity in a way that you’ll never forget. It will also make an impressive story to tell your friends or people you meet.

3. Rock Climbing

While skydiving takes you down, rock climbing shows you the excitement of going up. Whether you’re doing it at an indoor rock climbing wall or actually venturing out, you need to keep safety in mind. Make sure that you’re wearing the proper gear and that you’re following all instructions. As you advance your way up the course, you can learn to better trust your body. This can be a great option if you tend to be a little nervous about heights. It will help you face that fear and overcome something that makes you uncomfortable.

4. Firewalking

How can you walk on hot coals without burning your feet? Firewalking is the act of navigating barefoot across hot coals. This can be intimidating, but if you’re careful and know how to pace yourself, you can accomplish it free of injuries. Firewalking puts you in touch with your bodily sensations and shows that pain is only as intense as you allow it to be. It’s a unique way to push yourself to do something new.

Leaving your comfort zone isn’t easy. If it was, it wouldn’t be called a “comfort zone.” But if you think about the happiest moments of your life, you’ll likely realize that many of them came as a result of being willing to step out of your comfort zone. Experiences are what make us feel fully alive. Any of these activities can give you a jolt that reminds you of how truly magical life is.
