First dates can be quite nerve-wracking and tense if you aren’t prepared enough. No matter what anyone says, first impressions matter! From what you wear to how you behave and what you talk about can either land you a second date or a rejection ticket.
That’s why we offer you some of the tips on how to make a great first impression and have a perfect date.

Dress Appropriately

What you wear on your first date matters a lot. Believe it or not, dressing nicely can make a great first impression. This means that you should stay away from overly casual clothes and dress a bit dressier than you normally would.

Bright and bold colors are ideal for first impressions. According to
research, men prefer women who wear red color on their first date. Red is the color that screams confidence and passion.

Similarly, you could wear pink and blue or any other bold color that makes you feel good and confident. Because confidence is really what you’re aiming at.

When it comes to women, they love to see men in grey on their first date. What you should avoid wearing on your first date, regardless of whether you’re a man or a woman is a yellow color. Yellow is said to be the most off-putting color for both men and women.

Be Punctual

There is nothing more important than being on time for your first date. Punctual people make great first impressions. Try to do research on how to get to the desired location without being late and without too much panic.

What would make an even better impression is if you were a bit earlier than what you initially agreed upon. This will show your date that you are a serious person who is really interested in this date.

People who are always late can come across as being rude and selfish. Not only are you wasting other people’s time you also look like you don’t care. And while
some people might wait for you, others won’t be so tolerant. This is not the first impression that you want to give on your first date.

Choose the Right Location and the Right Event

Regardless of whether you got your first date through some of
the best dating services on the internet or your best friend set you up with her colleague, you’d want more than to just sit in a restaurant or cafe throughout the whole date.

Those kinds of dates are not just boring they are also very long! Think about what kind of date would be ideal for you. Would you like to go for a walk after dinner? Or maybe something different like a cinema?

Remember, you are just meeting this person for the first time, you wouldn’t want to bare your whole soul to your date right on the first date. Plus, you’d want a chance to see them in other situations not just sitting in a restaurant for the duration of the date.

What to Talk About on the First Date

For some people, this is the crux of the problem – what should I talk about with my date? Am I giving away too much? Will I come across as ignorant if I have no idea what they are talking about? Should I mention my ex? And so on.

The whole point of the date is to have fun and meet new people. Let the conversation flow, don’t be too concerned with what you should say or ask. However, don’t act like this is an interrogation and you must find out everything about the person you’re on a date with. Also, don’t give away too much about yourself on the first date either. Leave a bit of mystery for other dates.

Listen to your date and show interest in what they have to say. Don’t talk too much about your work and most definitely do not mention your ex on your first date. Neither praising or criticizing your ex on the first date is a good idea, that’s why it would be ideal to refrain from even mentioning them. Talk about interests and hobbies and
other safe topics!

Rejection Is a Possibility

Don’t be too bummed out if one date doesn’t work out, maybe a different one will. We are all human and we don’t have to like each other. No one grantees you that your first date will be a success no matter how great your first impression was.

The unsuccessful first date is nowhere near close to ending a year-long relationship. Handling this kind of situation gracefully is what you should do. Think about how you dodged a bullet before you started something and real emotions got involved.

No one guarantees us that our first dates will be perfect. However, if we start the date with the right kind of impression everything can be less stressful and much more fun!
