Picky About Everything

I was browsing through the Internet today, trying to brainstorm for some keywords for some new, upcoming material to write on. As I was browsing, I stumbled upon an almost seemingly ludicrous blog with endless commentary about dating a picky eater, and whether or not this girl should end it with her man, because of that. She stated how he wouldn’t eat her favourite foods or things that she’d cook or prepare for him. She said that she basically wanted to be with someone that would fight over the last bite of cheesecake with her. All I could think was, Oh my G-d! Are you serious? The problem isn’t the picky eater. The problem is her and the fact that she’s so picky. She’s willing to end her loving, healthy relationship just because her man is a picky eater? What’s this world coming to!

Being picky is good!

People that are picky generally know what they want. As well, they might be annoying to others, but I must say, it’s a lot better than being indecisive, or unsure about what you want, what you like, and what you don’t like. I think it can save a lot of hassle and time. I truly believe that it’s of utter importance to know what you want especially, when you’re dating. There’s nothing worse than someone that comes off as clueless to what they want in a future spouse or partner. Otherwise, you may never order, decide, make up your mind, or commit to someone.

There’s a seriously messed up and toxic mentality out there in which some people can’t commit to one person. They view everything as if the grass is always greener, and as if there will always be someone more beautiful, or better in this way or that. Some people respond negatively when they have too many options. It’s important to know what you want, and have an idea of what you’re looking for in a person. You should be picky. You’re entitled to want what you want. Although, you shouldn’t act with an arrogant or entitled attitude. Whether it’s what you order at a restaurant, the people you choose to date, the friends that you let in close, the things that you’re publicly willing to share on Facebook (yea, you know what I’m talking about), etc., it’s good to be picky. Remember, if you’re dating or in a relationship with a picky person, you should take that as a big compliment.

Be picky, but be sweet

If anyone can relate to being picky, it’s me. I’m picky about everything from who I date, what I eat, my hair, my eyebrows, my nails, lotions, table manners, Cabernet, and oh man can this list go on! Although, you might think whoa, this girl is nuts, and way too picky! But, the fact of the matter is that when you’re polite, cute, and sweet, you can get away with a whole lot. Did I mention how incredibly, and unbelievably humble I am! I’m the most humble girl in the whole wide world! Okay, I’m gonna get off of my high horse now, so that I can get back to my point. The biggest factor to remember when you know that you’re a picky person is that the pickier that you are, the sweeter that you have to be.

If you’re going to be picky at a restaurant like Meg Ryan in “When Harry Met Sally,” you better be damn sweet to your waitress! I’m not talking about leaving a big tip (but you should!). I’m talking more along the lines of being kind, smiling, and simply being sweeter than a buttercup. Did I mention how important it is to say your pleases and thank yous. It’s so imperative that you show your gratitude, without having to be extremely apologetic. I think Meg Ryan got away with not being super sweet in that scene, changing her mind a lot, wanting everything a la mode, etc., because she started moaning like there was Ecstasy in her food. She obviously took my article on seduction to an extreme extent.

Being picky vs. being difficult

Let’s face it, being picky is good, and we’ve already established that. It’s good to know what you want, and to know your self-worth as well. However, arrogance, being rude, insensitive, feeling entitled, and being snobby are nasty personality traits. Being polite, sweet, and easygoing are important traits, and should be on your “must have” list when finding a partner, and you should have all of those traits within yourself. When a person is too picky, inflexible, or not easygoing, they’re headed for disaster. If you’re too picky about everything, no one will want to be around you, let alone date you. People generally like being around others that are easy going, people that they can have fun, and be silly with. No one wants to be on edge when they’re around you all of the time.

If you’re too picky, then you better be darn cute, and not just in your looks, but I’m talking about having the personality of a fun-loving, silly comedian. Otherwise, not only won’t your date like you, friends won’t want to be around you, and your waiters, and other restaurant staff will completely despise you. Remember to be easygoing, laid-back, and know that you can’t and shouldn’t expect to always get or have everything that you want (I’m not talking about goals here). You can’t expect everyone to be understanding about your pickiness. You have to let go sometimes, and give in to the fact that not everyone likes picky people. Listen to your instinct when it comes to eating out, and you can usually tell if a waiter or waitress is in “a mood,” or willing to pamper your picky ass.
