Take a deep breath. Drink some water. Don’t think about it. If you’re regularly stressed, you’ve probably heard some or all of these remedies. While effective, there can be a point where your stress is so great that typical solutions have little to no effect. You shouldn’t give up, but you should consider other options. Here are four things you can do when nothing seems to help.
1. Meditate
Meditation is one of the best things you can do for your health all-around. It’s more than just sitting and breathing. A proper meditation practice involves evaluating your thoughts through awareness. When you start out, you’re likely to feel some stress. Don’t try to resist it. Simply acknowledge it as you would a slight breeze. You can have control over your thoughts and stress with enough practice.
2. Reiki
Sometimes, the answers to our problems are beyond the physical world. Reiki is a spiritual technique where one is healed through deliberate touch. This Japanese practice has profound benefits when it comes to stress reduction. Look for a Reiki therapist in your area. You might also consider going to a psychic for further spiritual understanding.
3. Do Chores
When stressed, the thought of doing work is laughable if not terrifying. However, taking on some work can really make you feel better. For one, it distracts you from whatever’s stressing you out. Additionally, the feeling of accomplishing something can boost your pride immensely. Rather than just let stress consume your mind, you should do something constructive.
4. Accept It
This might sound counterintuitive, but it works. If you tell yourself that you’re fine or embracing of your stress, it’s going to be much less powerful. Accepting stress doesn’t mean you aren’t going to try to find a solution, of course. It just means that you’re not going to lament your circumstances any more than you have to. Life isn’t always going to be fair, but complaining about it has absolutely no benefits. Acknowledge your stress and then move on.
Your stress does not have to be taken personally. You can distance yourself from your stress by gaining a proper perspective on it. All of these methods are about giving you a positive relationship with your feelings so that you can better discern which ones are and aren’t useful. When you take action against stress, you can realize just how much power you have over it.
