Dating: Taking Some Alone Time

53Shares

We all strive to fall in love. We all want to find that one person who we feel is made just for us. Sometimes, people get deflated because they’re spending too much time searching for that one person. They literally prefer to hold off on dating for a while. There’s nothing wrong with taking some time off and coming back fresh and rejuvenated. Sometimes, taking a little alone time can bring you back to life, especially when you’ve experienced any type of hurt, pain or disappointment. There’s nothing wrong with spending some Saturday nights alone. Just keep in mind that when you take time out for yourself, you don’t let it get to the point where you’ll turn new people, love interests and opportunities away. Alone time should be taken within reason.

Having time to yourself can be great. However, everybody isn’t the biggest fan of it,  especially when it’s not by choice. It’s important to learn to enjoy time by yourself, even if it’s only a little. You can’t expect that anyone will want to be entirely consumed by you, even when you find that special someone to spend your life with. Even when people say that they want to be consumed by you, it doesn’t mean literally, and that they don’t want you to be independent as well. It’s important to develop a sense of self worth, and to be a whole person before dating or getting involved with someone. You should learn to enjoy quality time by yourself. It’s actually one of the best ways to think and ponder of what’s really important in life.

You can’t go into new situations when you’re not entirely ready. If you just got out of a relationship that was draining to you in some way or where you’ve experienced any hurt or discomfort, it’s important to take some time to heal. This is important to do before getting back out into the dating scene. The last thing that you should do is date before you’re ready. You need to hold off for your own sake, and for the sake of others. Otherwise, you’ll be bringing your heartache and pain into new promising situations, and it will actually take the promise out of it altogether. As well, you’ll be considered emotionally unavailable, which is definitely not good for new situations.

When you decide that you’re ready to date, it’s important to do so with an open heart, and an optimistic outlook. Remember, no one can fall in love with someone else when they’re emotionally not open to it. It’s imperative that we all embrace new love when it’s before us, and not destroy new opportunities because we entered them when we weren’t ready. Take some time to heal, rejuvenate, and come back even stronger than you were before.

This is why going on vacations (when you can) can be so helpful for the soul when people are workaholics or even after a breakup. It’s important to take care of yourself, and to love yourself enough to value how you feel inside. There’s no rush to jump back into the dating scene, when you’re so obviously not ready. Even if you’re not recently out of a relationship or marriage, it’s important to enjoy your single life and alone time, so that when you do finally settle down, you won’t feel as if you’ve missed out on anything like the single life.
